What does it take to be a Lazyman winner? Empty What does it take to be a Lazyman winner?

Posting some general observations and conclusions here . . . I will eventually do some number crunching.

Top 6 full-year teams:

Hobbs: drafted Judge and Blackmon. Highest salary pitcher drafted was 3.7 for Carlos Martinez. Drafted 16 pitchers.
Ramblers: drafted Judge and Blackmon. Highest salary pitcher drafted was 2.8 for Tanaka and DeGrom. Drafted 16 starters.
Passion Warriors: drafted Stanton. Drafted Kershaw, but highest pitcher after that was 2.7 million for Hendricks. Drafted 14 starters.
Fungoed Martian: drafted Votto. Highest salary pitcher was 3.7 for Martinez and Darvish. Drafted 12 starters.
Cabs Coolers: Highest paid pitcher was 2.7 for Hendricks. Drafted 17 starters.
Bellzzano: Highest paid pitcher was 2.2 for Teheran. Drafted 14 starters.

Hypothesis #1: Draft cheap players like Judge (#1 in scoring) who end up scoring a ton of points. But, only 2 of the 7 teams that drafted Judge ended up in the top six. Or other high scoring players, only one of the 9 teams that drafted Stanton (#2) finished in the top 6, but 3 of the 6 teams that drafted Blackmon (#4) finished in the top six. The only team that drafted Goldschmidt (#4) finished near the bottom. Votto (#5) was taken by 3 teams, one of which made the top 6.
Conclusion: False.

Hypothesis #2: Draft a bunch of starting pitchers, but not super high priced ones. The top six teams averaged 14.8 starting pitchers. The league averaged 14.0. The teams that took the most starting pitchers (18 and19) finished 20th, 28th, and 35th. Sixteen teams took more than the league average, but only three finished in the top six.
Conclusion: False.

Any other hypotheses?

I'd like to review the who-took-who and salaries for SP's. Perhaps the elite SP's should come down a little more.

The SP salaries were in-line with batters when comparing projected points. This year, batters seemed to score higher than pitchers - perhaps due to the uptick in homers. The likelihood of injury is greater with pitchers, but that is one of the reasons we draft so many of them. At least our teams didn't need 23 different starting pitchers over the course of the season like the Mariners. I will scrutinize starting pitcher salaries for next season.
